The stream takeover is inevitable. It’s clear that people are shifting away from going to theaters or owning their movies in physical media. Smart TVs are now the most popular device for streaming. About 61% of U.S. households use a smartTV as their main device for watching shows and movies. So, if you’re streaming from the couch, chances are you’re using a big screen.

But Smart TVs are not the only way people watch movies. Smartphones are the most used device overall for streaming, 44% of people watching most of their content on their phones. Laptops are in third place, with 29% of people streaming from their computers. Laptops are preferred when people multitask or just want a smaller screen.

Other devices like Roku and gaming consoles are also popular for streaming, with 24% using streaming devices and 15% relying on game consoles. As a result, we can gather from all this that people are using a mix of devices to watch content. If you are a content creator, it means making sure your content works well across all types of media.
