Streaming has changed the way we watch TV and movies. But here’s something interesting, the devices people pick to stream on often depends on their age. Here’s some fun stats on the most favorite stream platforms used to watch favorite shows and films for different age groups.
Age Makes a Big Difference
The devices we use for streaming really shift depending on the generation. According to a recent survey by S&P Global Market Intelligence 451. This survey asked US consumers about their streaming device usage and planned buying.
Gen Z (ages 13–24): Phones are their go-to. About 57% of Gen Z mainly stream on their smartphones, though laptops and gaming consoles are also popular. Convenience seems to be a big priority for this age group as being able to watch anywhere is a big win.

Millennials (25–40): Phones still make up for the most usage with this group, with 56% use. However, tablets and streaming devices like Roku or Fire TV also make the list. Millennials are all about flexibility, they might start a show on their phone during a commute or idle time and finish later on a big screen at home.

Gen X (41–56) & Baby Boomers (57+): Big screens are the most popular among this group. About 37% of Gen X and 31% of Baby Boomers mostly stream on smart TVs. We can guess that streaming allows seniors to enjoy entertainment in the comfort of their homes, avoiding crowded movie theaters.

From all this data, we can conclude that age plays a significant role in how people prefer to stream content. Younger generations prefer convenience, by the use of phones and portable devices. The older generations lean more towards larger screens for a more comfortable viewing experience at home.
