Criterion

Get ready to rewind. This coming month, BigScreens  is shedding the sterile perfection of the digital age to celebrate the grit, texture, and unbridled creativity of the home video boom. We are thrilled to announce an exclusive, month-long partnership with the Criterion Collection to present “VHS FOREVER”—a fully immersive, tactile deep dive into the era of magnetic tape, tracking lines, and iconic box art.

Inspired by the neon-hued, community-driven energy of independent European cinema spaces like Amsterdam’s LAB111, we are transforming our entire venue into a living, breathing shrine to analog culture.

The On-Site Experience

This isn’t just a series of screenings; it’s a full cultural takeover. Step into our lobby and experience a complete visual and sensory transformation:

  • The CRT Installation: Our lobby will feature an interactive wall of glowing, vintage CRT televisions displaying rare trailers, analog art loops, and classic home video idents.
  • The “Be Kind, Rewind” Marketplace: We have rebuilt a classic video rental storefront right inside the film house. Come dig through the crates to browse rare Criterion physical media releases, vintage tape artwork, custom screenprinted apparel, and limited-edition collector’s patches.
  • The Retro Café Fuel: Our café bar is getting an 80s/90s menu upgrade. Stop by before or after your screening for nostalgia-infused specialty sodas, retro cinema snacks, and custom late-night blends designed to keep you fueled through our double features.

Featured Programming Highlights

Our theater tracking lines are set. Throughout the month, we will be screening a meticulously curated selection of cult classics, genre-defining oddities, and legendary independent films that found their true home on the video store shelf.

Late-Night Analog Grits

Every Friday and Saturday at midnight, the lights go down for our raw, unhinged genre marathons. Experience the tracking lines, tape hiss, and low-fi glory of vintage straight-to-video sci-fi, horror, and action gems the way they were originally meant to be seen—with a packed house of fellow tapeheads.

Dead Media, Living Culture: Panel Discussion

Cinema history isn’t just preserved in archives; it survives on plastic. Join us mid-month for a live, interactive panel discussion featuring local archiving experts, film historians, and physical media collectors as we explore the cultural impact, box art design history, and ongoing preservation efforts of the home video era.

Secure Your Access

In true video store fashion, quantities and seats are strictly limited. Don’t get left holding a blank tape.

Whether you are a lifelong collector or discovering the warmth of analog cinema for the very first time, join us for a month of pure nostalgia.
