The last time I went to the movies all by myself was over 20 years ago. Before that time, and after that time, I have always gone with friends and family. There is absolutely nothing that compares to movie night with friends and the bonding that comes with it. Going to the movies and the whole atmosphere associated with the movie theater experience, while watching movies with friends, is like putting the fun back in fun while adding popcorn, pizza, French fries dripping with cheese, and truck loads of coca cola.
Shared Interest in Movie Franchises
What’s the bonding factor that just makes this togetherness fun? Some folks follow very specific movie genres, or the work of specific directors, or it may be the established storylines and characters known from a particular franchise. I know that for me these are true. This shared interest in our movie tastes is a magnet that sparks group texting between my friends and me. Being a designer, artistry is an attraction to me. My friends and family are into the sound effects as well as the visual ones. If the movie delivers satisfaction, the discussion between us usually becomes even more fired up and anticipation, for the next installment of the film becomes fully charged.
Date Night
My date nights at the movies are also carefully orchestrated activity. Wifey tends to choose the movie 50% of the time. Denzel Washington and Idris Elba are some of her favorite actors. What’s good about it is that they are amongst my favorites as well. Whether I am with my wife, the entire family, or with friends, many times going to the movies is an excuse to go and hang out after the movie is done. We may go to Roco’s – a Turkish restaurant in Sheepshead Bay, Fridays, Red Lobster, or Bamboo Walk Restaurant. The bottom line is, the memories we build are priceless.
