With epic cutting edge sound design, there is definitely a nail-biting countdown to the upcoming premiere of the third installment in the Dune Movie Trilogy coming out on December 18, 2026. The Dune 3 anticipation comes from the stunning cinematography, audio, and sound design that is unique to the atmosphere of the Dune movies. (Click here to watch).

Recording The Sounds of the Sands
Everything from the sound of the sand, the rodents on the sand, the sound of the worms, the sand, storms, then languages, the incantations, and the unique signature, thumping sound that caused the giant worms from the depths of the sands, all studied and recorded with the most amazing design process. I recently watched a documentary titled Dune Sound Design Explained – The Cinematic Sounds of Villeneuve’s Sci-fi epic. It is the most fascinating documentary on the sound design for these movies that you would ever see.
The sounds of nature, above and below the ground, were recorded in locations such as the Nevada desert, the Jordanian desert in the Middle East, and the deserts of Namibia in southern Africa. The sounds were then, in many cases, electronically manipulated to create sounds that have never been heard before. Watching a movie of the scope and magnitude of Dune is the act of watching art and design on epic proportions. The movie definitely transports you to the planet, Arakis, and immerses you into a world unlike no other.

Scoring the Music
To take it to another level, this documentary (Watch here) gives amazing insight into the music that was scored for the series. The creator is none other than the great German composer, Hans Zimmer. One of Hans’ trademarks as a creator of unique and timeless cinematic scores is his ability to sample sounds that we would not normally think of capturing. He is known for working with creatives around the world, who have invented all sorts of devices with non-traditional sounds, which are then combined to create music that transports the emotions to a different ‘galaxy.’
